I use this in my kitchen to contain trash like chicken bones, butter wrappers or sardine cans that my dogs would go after in a minute. I always had to put my kitchen trash on a high counter when I left the house. Now I can simply leave this one sitting as is. Dogs foiled. [I know I should train my dogs with mousetraps or noise makers but this is so much easier.]I bought this because I needed trash and recycling bins but was tired of having bins that had open tops, that would get gross and smelly, trash bags sticking out of the bin, and which stuck out like an eyesore in the kitchen. It looks great, and I love having the trash and recyling be in the same bin. The removable compartments make it easy to just empty out one or the other. For recycling I don't even change the liner every time. It comes with 10 liners for each compartment made by simplehuman, but I don't see why you can't just use any old trash bag that is the right size. One downside is the small bin is too small. They suggest that you use the larger one for recycling and smaller one for trash, but that would mean I'm throwing out the trash like every 2 days, and larger things like styrofoam trays won't fit in the trash. So I switched them and use the larger one for trash and smaller one for recycling. This product fits beautifully in a relatively small kitchen. No smudges and the combination trash and recycle is really convenient. Also love the custom, well-fitting bags for the bins. I can't get the locking feature to work but also haven't found that I need it.When I bought this trashcan I felt like I was spending an obscene amount of money for a trashcan. It was worth it. The lid settles into the frame of the top of the can eliminating odor. It came with 20 of the trash bags custom fit to the bin. You can use kitchen trash bags from the store but it's a very tight fit and if it's too heavy, the bag will rip. 30 gal trash bags work better and there's a hole in the bin where you can thread any excess into so the bag fits. The trashcan came with a 20% off coupon for SimpleHuman's custom liners and I bought them. I got 60 bags for $20. If I have to put my trash out every week, that will get me into 2023. It's just me in the household and I recycle more than I throw away so sometimes one bag lasts for two weeks. This was a great purchase! I'm pretty sure it's the last kitchen trashcan I'll have to buy. These simplehuman trash cans are great. You may have seen reviews of other brands of "step" cans talking about the lid lifting mechanism breaking down. Not these. I've had their This is solidly constructed. Having a recycle container and larger trash container in the same can makes lots of sense. The locking top is a nice feature, that works well. This barrel looks real nice and is smudge proof which I like we did not get the motion sensor one.Hold alot! We compared pricing from Bed Bath & Beyond and these were less than half the price forthe same item.Ordered one after looking at very many others; happy with how it functioned (lid does not strike the wall when opened, lid closes slowly, quietly). So, I ordered a second one (for another location), it is well made.I needed a rectangular bin and this did the job. 50l is a good size for a family and looks very presentable in the kitchen in the chrome and black. Soft close is nice as is the fact the bags can’t be seen the a good right seal prevents all smells associated with a plain kitchen bin. I only docked it a star because it is wildly expensive reducing the value for money. That being said I am glad I bought it but surely someone can compete and makes these cheaper. There isn’t a “wow” factor but it’s presentable and appears to be of good quality and durability and fingerprints are not a problem. The bin is easily emptied with zero fuss. I’ve been managing nicely to date by using up my leftover 25l swing bin liners from Aldi. The posh ones from Simplehuman are undoubtedly better but again not necessary unless you are hauling the bag down a flight of stairs or something! I’d recommend buying it but seek discount or alternative that is comparable to improve on value for money. That’s my review of a bin!You either know if you're conceptually on-board with spending this much on a bin. I'm not going to sway you on that one. If you are okay with the price, this is a great bin. I'd ummed and ahhed between this one and the Joseph and Joseph bin which was a similar price, but pulled the trigger on this one and would recommend it for the following reasons.- The silent close mechanism. I work in an environment, with foot pedal bins with no silent close mechanism and it grates every time I use one of them. At home I don't want this. And a foot pedal bin is a must for the kitchen I think - it just makes waste disposal easier and cleaner.- The individual compartments - how have I thought I was doing rubbish right without having nice discrete compartments for waste and recycling. They are a good fit and easily removed if needs be. They may well feel a bit small, but I think that's going to be a matter for your home life. For a family of three it feels plenty big enough.- The bin bags. If you're the right kind of nerd, having bin bags designed to perfectly fit your bin and be pleasingly thick and robust, it is deeply satisfying. You get a starter set of both the kinds of bags with the bin and even their packaging is well-designed and allows you to pull a single bin liner out and even has a little tab that gets pulled out when you're running low. If you live in the states they even have an app to help you order more. Sadly not for the UK, though.Yes, it's expensive and the liner are more expensive than the ones you buy in Tesco. But it works so well. And either that's enough for you to justify the price or it's not. We've had this for about 2 months. It's a waste bin for the kitchen but it's one of the most beautiful, elegant, easy to clean objects in the house. £150 for a bin seems extravagant but I think in this case, you really do get what you pay for.The simplehuman bin liners that came with it are an excellent fit and very strong and although replacements are expensive, I'll most definitely buy them from simplehuman as there's just no comparison with generic bags from the supermarket. The bin itself is beautifully designed with small air gaps at the base of the "bucket" the bag sits in so you can expand the bag easily without it billowing out of place. The stainless steel exterior is very easy to wipe down if anything gets spilled onto it. There is a recess at the back of the bin (I think it's supposed to be used for hiding any excess liner but with this there is no excess) so you can lift it with one hand whilst you vacuum underneath with the other and there's an extra half inch or so of the base at the back so that it doesn't push right up against a wall so you can get your fingers into that recess easily. All in all I'd be hard pressed to find a better bin and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who's in need of a new kitchen bin.Let's start by stating the obvious: the price is literally obscene for a kitchen bin. Now, that out of the way, let us discuss why it makes sense to buy it.This is the only bin I've ever had which has the uncanny ability to become invisible in your kitchen. Yes, it is big. Yes, it is shiny. But you will never discuss the bin with your partner. You will never complain again. No noise, no filthy edges, no pesky liners sticking out of it, weightless lid, responsive pedal, easy to clean...We've had it for 3 years now and I really expect it to last forever. I know the manufacturer says that the pedal system has limited lifespan blah blah blah, but the figures quoted in the manual are way beyond our daily usage for 50 years. We use third-party liners for both compartments. Almost any 'tall' liner would do, and you can find them in all major supermarkets, including places such as Home Bargains or Aldi.Wholeheartedly recommended.
